2025 MFL Draft Preview - Part 2 of 2
Big potential for big stuff
(August 12) This year's class of first and second rounders in the MFL Draft have great potential to make great impacts early. The list starts with rookie sensation RB Ashton Jeanty, who is expected to go No. 1 to Missouri. Cap space will constrict the abilities of both Pittsburgh and Arkdale to take a seasoned veteran, so look for RB Omarion Hampton and WR Travis Hunter to go next.
The first vet off the board will yet again be RB Christian McCaffrey. While injuries have hampered him, he's looking ready to rock heading into 2025 and could make a splash with the Aces. The first round will also be chock full of strong veteran talent, such as RB Josh Jacobs, WR Drake London, WR Malik Nabers, WR Marvin Harrison, Jr. and QB Joe Burrow.
Rookie RBs Kaleb Johnson, R.J. Harvey, and TreVeyon Henderson will contribute pretty quickly as well.
In Round Two, some names to watch include QB Cam Ward, WR Tetairoa McMillan, and TE Colston Loveland. This trio have big potential written all over them.
Among vets falling in here are RB Najee Harris, WR Calvin Ridley, and WR Chris Olave. WR Jameson Williams will be quite a nice pick up as well.
Question marks surround QB Shedeur Sanders, who rose up the ranks in recent days, and RB Quinshon Judkins, who's had some legal troubles. Both will be taken beyond Round One, but if things shape up, they'll be great grabs for cheap.

2025 MFL Draft Preview - Part 1 of 2
Good pickups late
(August 5) The latter rounds of the draft will allow for some rookies with future potentials and some veterans that could give some position boosts, especially when covering bye weeks.
Brothers Travis Etienne and Trevor Etienne may end up going here. Travis has had some big moments, but they've been few and far between, while Trevor could eek in right near the end if a team wants to give him a long-distance shot. Rookie backs Dylan Sampson and Jaydon Blue could get more carries than one might expect if the passing games start to go awry. A huge wild card is Shedeur Sanders. Might he be a big surprise or a huge bust? We'll see, but someone is bound to grab him before the end of the draft. Tyler Loop has a great shot to be an early-round kicker.
Strong vets can be gotten cheap here. Jerry Jeudy, an Online 30 regular, might finally find a long-term home if the price is right. Jauan Jennings, Rashod Bateman, and sophomore Ricky Pearsall are sure to get looks. Justice Hill and Darnell Mooney can produce if given the opportunity. Tight ends Darren Waller and Evan Engram will find landing spots a no-brainer No. 2s on depth charts.

The Online 30
Crowded At The Top
(July 31) It'll be yet another topsy-turvy MFL Draft in Season No. 28. There are top-flight veterans and some very able rookies slated to go early. But, will there be enough talent after the initial wave to satiate the needs of those without high first-round picks?
Three players fought for top biling on this year's Online 30: Christian McCaffrey, Malik Nabers, and Ashton Jeanty. McCaffrey slightly edged the other two for the No. 1 spot, but he won't likely be taken as the overall first pick because of his veteran status. A bidding war will ensue for him, but he's also been injury prone. Nabers should miss the mark as well. That leaves Jeanty as the most likely choice to go Number One.
Two more early selections will be Josh Jacobs and Drake London. Jacobs is back in the draft after just one year in New York, but just might find his way there again if circumstances play out right. London was very capable for the Peregrines, but it was a crowded house at receiver in Missouri, and his cap number was just too high.
After Jeanty, the rookie running backs will be snagged up quickly. Omarion Hampton vaulted to near the top of the list and will not have to wait long for his name to be called. TreVeyon Henderson, Kaleb Johnson, and R.J. Harvey will get some solid reps in their first year, but they may find a suitor more willing to wait until Year Two and beyond to see them pay dividends.
From there, it'll take a keen eye by the league's GMs to make a good fit. Veteran receivers Jerry Jeudy, Calvin Ridley, and Jameson Williams have had solid track records. Rookies Tetairoa McMillan and Matthew Golden show some promise.
Among those who may seek some interest regardless of where they landed on the list include Travis Hunter, Najee Harris, and Cam Skattebo. Might Hunter play Swiss army knife and wow fans immediately out of the box? Will Harris's eye heal enough to ready him for the opener? Is Skattebo worth the hype?

For this project, four websites with top rankings of all NFL players were used (ESPN, CBS Sports, FantasyPros and FFToday). All players on current MFL rosters were then omitted, and the players left were re-ranked with each of the four websites' lists.
The Best column shows the highest ranking that a player received on any of the re-rank lists. The Actual Best column shows the highest ranking that a player received on any of the original lists. The Score shows the total combined ranking of all four websites.

Modified Auction Precedure for Veterans Drafted in Rounds One and Two
1. The team who is up for drafting tells which veteran they would like to select. After making the player selection, the team must assign a dollar value that they would like to pay for this veteran. A veteran is defined as an NFL player that has any NFL experience before the upcoming season.
2. The commissioner asks if there are any teams that would like to place a 'challenge' bid, or possess an equal interest in signing said player, thus, placing an increased bid upon the original bid. The increased bid has a fixed dollar value above the original bid depending upon the round. (See Figure 1 pertaining to 'Challenge Bids' below.)
3. If no team makes a 'challenge,' the player is declared 'signed' by the original bidding club. No further bidding takes place upon this player.
4. If one club makes a 'challenge,' the salary for the drafted player is increased by the amount required in Figure 1.
5. If more than one club makes a 'challenge,' the 'challenging' clubs start their increased bids at the amount required in Figure 1 and an auction ensues until only one clubs remains, and then that increased bid becomes the drafted player's new salary. Bidding during the auction must be done in $100,000 increments.
6. If the original drafting club declines to 'counter,' the player is declared 'signed' by the 'challenging' club. No further bidding takes place upon this player.
7. If the original drafting club decides to 'counter,' the salary for the drafted player is increased by the amount required in Figure 2 pertaining to 'Counter Bids,' (see below) and the player is declared 'signed' by the original drafting club. No further bidding takes place upon this player.
8. After the player has been 'signed,' the next club in the draft order selects a player. If the players is a veteran, then the process begins again at Rule 1 above.
9. The Modified Auction Method is only used for veterans in Rounds One and Two only. All players, rookies or veterans, starting in Round Three have a set drafted value (see the scale at the top of the page). The draft continues until all 60 selections have been made and signed, or until all teams have made only the selections they wish to make and forfeit their remaining picks.
